crepuscule (2026)

violin
c. 3 minutes 30 seconds

Composed for the Cleveland Composers Guild 2026 Creativity: Learning Through Experience Project
Premiered by Macy Ratzel (violin)
The Music Settlement, Cleveland, OH, 17 May 2026

crepuscule | noun | twilight, dusk, dimness

The main image I had in my mind while composing
crepuscule (2026) was joy: the joy of summer camp, the joy of Sabrina Carpenter songs, the joy of a ferret curling up in your hands. As crepuscular creatures, ferrets are most active at dawn and dusk. This piece mimics the energetic playfulness of ferrets during these hours, with brief lulls in the action to rest before resuming their joyful play.

crepuscule was composed for the 2026 Cleveland Composer’s Guild Creativity: Learning Through Experience Project. My gratitude goes to Macy for bringing my music to life, for the beautiful cover art on this score, and for making me want to hold a ferret in my hands in the future.
