In A Chase in Purple (2021), light, staccato high notes are paired against dark, ominous notes in the lowest register of the piano. The piece loosely tells the story of a bunny being chased by a more sinister character. While the ending is left open to interpretation, I like to think that the bunny gets away. The piece is also somewhat inspired by my cat, Pippin, who has (luckily) never met a rabbit, but enjoys chasing other creatures and objects, including stink bugs, leaves, and his tail.
